The building that now houses the theatre was once home to Sun Ke Heong ‘House of Fragrance’. The building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places was erected in 1933 and has survived two hurricanes. After ‘Iniki however, the building was badly damaged and leaning over. It was Mark Jeffer’s vision to save the building and at the same time create a permanent home for Storybook Theatre, which began as a touring performing arts company for children in Honolulu in 1979.
