This class is perfect for first time visitors who have access to a kitchen. Schedule this at the beginning of your trip and eat like a local during your entire stay! “We very much enjoyed the tour and found it incredibly useful. We proudly sent photos of our purchases to our families back home, telling them all that we bought (13 of which we had never tried or even seen before!). Tonight, we had a fantastic salad with fresh greens and a simple dressing of milk, mayonnaise, herbs and key lime juice. It was spectacular – so fresh! Tomorrow we’ll sauté all of the greens. We’re eating fruit as it ripens, and over the weekend we’ll snack on avocados. Wonderful! We were very impressed – with your knowledge, the relationships you share with the growers, the preparation suggestions you shared with us, and how easygoing and fun the whole experience was.” ~ Ann & Robert Boylan, Washington This tour is guided by, Marta Lane, founder of Tasting Kauai. This month’s book will be “Hawai’i in War and Peace” a Memoir by Kauai author Bill Fernandez. When Bill Fernandez was sent to Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu in 1944, World War II still raged around the world. Barefoot and naïve, he struggled to understand the military high school and its rules which limited his life. Waikiki’s streets filled with military opened his eyes to racism. A family trip to the continent in 1948 revealed an unfair world for many. As he documents the era, you learn why he entered Stanford University despite his desire to be a fisherman. Bill retired from the Santa Clara County, CA, Superior Court and returned home to Kapa’a where he writes memoirs and novels in the home his mother bought with her pineapple cannery earnings. Bill will be presenting his book release at the “Book Club at the Museum” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Kaua’i Museum Main Gallery.
