Kauai Mokihana Festival

September 22nd, Kauai Composers Contest & Concert at 07:00 pm

Cultural Festival in Lihue
Kauai Community College PAC
Excellent acoustics at the Performing Arts Center at Kauai Community College allow the audience to enjoy original compositions by Kauai composers in several categories. Cheer on each artist as they perform new songs with the help of local, talented musicians, and vote for the People's Choice winner. Tickets $15 in advance/$20 at door.
Admission: $20 at door ; advance purchase of tickets recommended
 

September 23rd, Eo, E Lili'u Youth Music Com at 09:00 am

Cultural Festival in Lihue
Kauai Community College PAC
Students in the Hawaiian Immersion School Programs compete musically by grades. Excellent acoustics at the Performing Arts Center at Kauai Community College allow the audience to enjoy the singing, most of which is performed in the Hawaiian language.
Admission: $5 ; advance purchase of tickets recommended
 

September 25th, Kahiko Nei Hula at 06:00 pm

Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, Lihue
Hula halau from the other islands, mainland US, and Japan compete for awards and prizes in this must-see demonstration of contemporary Hawaiian culture. Tickets $15 in advance / $20 at door. Special seating by reservation. Full information on website: http://mokihana.kauai.net

September 26th, Group Auana Hula at 06:00 pm

Cultural Festival in Lihue
Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, Lihue
Hula halau from the other islands, mainland US, and Japan compete for awards and prizes in this must-see demonstration of contemporary Hawaiian culture. Auana hula is "modern" hula, where newer songs are awaded extra points by the judges. Tickets $15 in advance / $20 at door. Special seating by reservation. September 27th, Solo Auana Hula Awards Finale at 36:00 am

About the Festival:

Contemporary Hawaiian culture, hula, and music are featured in this week-long festival at locations around the island. Highlights include the Kauai Composers Contest & Concert and three evenings of hula competition. "Year of Our Kupuna" is the 2008 Theme and will honor the cultural contributions from our elders. Watch for special workshops and events. Join us as we celebrate 24 years of this popular festival coordinated and founded by Nathan Kalama.
